“Pro Spex” was almost Glenovy.
That was back in 2003, when Pro Spex was just a shared idea between the two of us architecture graduates. We already had entrepreneurial skill sets from our Architectural Consulting business, and had enough experience from providing inspections pro-bono to start investing in the venture. Realtors and friends encouraged us to move forward, and during that time’s slow season and weak architectural market, we took a chance and launched our business. A couple dozen flyers and emails later, we had our first inspection booked in New Jersey!
Our passion for home inspections comes from a combination of things: Education, Empathy, and Diversity. We both received our degrees in Architecture from Howard University, and that background allows us to assist others since we have a better understanding of the construction of homes and the building process. We realized that not a lot of people really understood the importance of a home inspection, and providing valuable information for people from different walks of life (especially first time homebuyers), is incredibly fulfilling. The Washington, DC metro area is very diverse, and allows us to meet and connect with all kinds of people. Our clients range from seasoned professionals with years in their respective fields, to those who are just starting to dip their toes in the waters of real estate.
What we care about most is being able to provide services that help our clients understand and protect the biggest and smartest investment they’ll ever make.
-Glenford Blanc, President and CEO
After getting the ball rolling and solidifying our purpose, we officially called ourselves “Pro Spex” in 2003. A few years later, we started averaging over 300 inspections per year, and hired our first full time inspector in 2008! We were still a small, three-person team by then, but that didn’t stop us from continuing to make strides in our industry. We were one of the first home inspection companies to use IR technology, and since then have incorporated more technology, like sewer cameras and drones, in order to provide a wider range of high quality services for our clients.
Our small team grew between 2012 and 2015, when three full time inspectors joined us, and at the end of that year, we had completed over 11,000 inspections. With business booming and the team growing, we decided it was time to give ourselves a little more room, and moved to our current office in Laurel in 2016. Pro Spex has been family owned and operated since its founding, and the two of us and our four kids painted the inside of the small building two shades of blue, made some renovations, and officially made the office ours. In 2019, we purchased the first of many company vehicles, and had them custom wrapped so anyone we passed would be able to recognize Pro Spex on the move!

The business continued to expand, adding services like mold assessments and termite inspections, and even branched out more into commercial properties, like office buildings and places of worship. Our team grew to six inspectors in 2018, and two years later, the pandemic hit. Having to adjust to that was new to us and most of the world. We didn't let it stop us though, but it taught all of us two valuable lessons: one, don't take anything for granted and two, always be prepared. We used our online community to keep the doors open and assist clients and agents who were also "figuring it out". A lot of changes were made (you can read our Covid-19 policy here) to how we operate and move forward, but our determination to provide quality services and help keep our inspectors’ heads above water during a time of extreme caution and incredible financial strain kept us going.
Our focus will always be the same no matter what's going on in the world of home inspections: the Client. We always want to provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision about your purchase.
